Becky Kent has dedicated her life to serving others in her community. A caring and warm person, she is known best for building strong relationships and persistently acting as a champion for progress where she lives and works.

 

Becky spent the first few years of her career working in customer service and then as a small business owner, owning and operating a private preschool in Eastern Passage. In 2004, Becky had a calling to enter politics and was elected HRM councillor for Woodside-Eastern Passage. In 2007, she was elected to the Nova Scotia Legislation as MLA for Cole Harbour-Eastern Passage, which she held until 2013. During her time as a city councillor and then MLA, she chaired and served on various committees, and in 2010 was appointed Ministerial Assistant to the Minister of Education. In 2011, Becky was appointed Deputy Speaker of the House of Assembly.With experience at two levels of government, Becky is excited about the new challenge District 3 presents.

 

After leaving politics in 2013, Becky was director of a new division at Ocean View Continuing Care Centre, which sought to support seniors to safely and independently stay in their own homes. Becky also worked as the provincial coordinator for Transition House Association of Nova Scotia, as the liaison for 11 domestic violence shelters across the province.

Most recently, Becky has worked to support a family-owned business. 

 

Becky grew up in Shelburne, Nova Scotia and attended Saint Mary’s University in Halifax and earned a B.A. in Psychology. She moved to Eastern Passage over 35 years ago, where she raised her three boys and continues to reside with her husband. Her family is the inspiration and motivation for her tireless work to make her community an even better place to raise families, own businesses, work and retire.Alongside her professional advocacy, Becky is passionate about women in government and helping families and youth.
